College Composition II

I have had a lot of fun and learned something new on top of that. I also have improved in my typing skills, writing skills, and commucation skills.I think that everything did the best job that they could in this class. When you think about the skills that we all have learned, they are very valuable because with all of us studying a medical career we will be using these skills for the rest of our life in our new found career. I think that everyone in this class will go far with all of the knowledge that they have found in this class/course I will miss each and everyone on these students and the knowledge that they all posses and displayed in this class/course. My greatest hope for everyone is that they will enjoy the career that they have chosen and that they will have a very fulfilled life with their career. I would love to wish everyone a great time writing and either blogging or what every they are planing after this class will be over. Remember "work smarter and not harder".

week ten (10) - last week of classes

(Abstract) In this paper the reader will learn what the word Achromatopsia is, means, and how it can effect a person sight of color vision. There are two different kinds of Achromatopsia. These are complete and incolplete. The reader will learn what the difference between complete and incomplete Achromatopsia are and how a person gets this condition. The reader will learn how rod monochromatism and Achromatopsia are the very same thing. What does light sensitivity have to do with Achromatopsia? Why would a person have to wear red tinted sunglasses inside of the house? (Title)Through the eyes; with no color(Introduction)When you look at the world, what do you see? You probably see a lot of colors that are in the world. Well, someone with a condition called achromatopsia can not see any color at all. So it is impossible for them to see the color of grass, water, trees, sun, and clouds. Just to name a few of the things that people with this condition can not see the color of. Did you know that 1 in every 33,000 Americans have Achromatopsia (Windsor, R., Windsor, L., n.d.)? Most people take being able to see color for granted, people with this condition can not do that. Do you ever remember taking a look at your grandmother's or mother's old black and white photographs? Now, try to live in a world that looks like those photographs. Now, what do you see? Do you see gray clouds? Do you see black water? Do your see black grass? Do you see white sun? Do your see black trees? If you have Achromatopsia you do. This is what a person with Achromatopsia see everyday of their life. Would you like to learn more about this condition?(Paragraph one)Do you know what the word Achromatopsia means? Well, achromatopsia means" a person who is colorblind, colorless, with out color" (Davis, F., 2005). In order for someone to have this condition they have to be born with an inherited gene. These genes are CNGB3 and CNGA3. This means that either the mother or the father has to have passed on one or both of these genes to the child. If the person that recieved this gene tends to get both of these genes then they have complete Achromatopsia, but if they only get one of these genes they have incomplete Achromatopsia (Windsor, R., Windsor, L., n.d.). Patients that have incomplete Achromatopsia are very light sensitive, but can still see some color. Patients with complete Achromatopsia again are very light sensitive, but can not see any color at all (Genetics Home Reference 2009). "More men than women have color blindness. And usually people with a color deficiency are born with this condition" (Bailey, G., Haddrill,M., 2009). In fact, "ten times more men get this condition than women" (Waxman, L., 1995). How can one tell if they have these genes or not? (paragraph two) Usually it starts just like any other disease. Sometimes it can happen at birth, but other times it can happen suddenly. When this condition starts, either suddenly or at birth, there is a certain test that can be done that will let the doctor know what is going on with the eyes and the way that the patient sees color. These two test are called Ishihara test and the Sheridan-Gardiner test. The Ishihara test will tell the doctor that there are abnormality (St. Martin's Press 1999) of color in the eyes, but will not let the doctor know to what extent (Gardiner, P., McGlannan, F., 2001). In fact a Sheridan-Gardiner test will have to be taken. "The Sherian-Gardiner is matching test for visual acuity and other standard color vision screening techniques"(Gardiner, P., McGlannan, F., 2001). When a person can not see color they think that something is wrong with there eyes and they only are partially correct. There are three types of color cones in the eyes that let them see color. When the patient has Achromatopsia, the color cone in the eyes are still there but they are just not functional (News Reviews 2000). When a person has Achromatopsia the person usually wears either very dark sunglasses or red tinted sunglasses even inside of the house hold (Moore, T., M.D. 2009).(Paragraph three) In the book called "The island of the colorblind"' Oliver Sacks wondered a question. That question was "What was the difference between blind people and colorblind people?"(1996). In this book, it told of an island that has nothing but colorblind people on it. Oliver Sacks visited this island in the year 1776. When people read this book they find out about what the people see everyday of their lives when they have Achromatopsia. Some other examples of people with this condition are, one from a person in St. Louis MO. Which in short said;"when I flunked the color blindness test once during the course of a regular physical exam, the nurse halted the test, called all of her colleagues around and requested that I retake the test in front of the audience. My wife effortlessly, and by now, subconsciously, inserts the word "red" or "yellow" in midsentence as we approch flashing lights at night" (Childress, T., 1998). Yet, another experience would be: "while there are days when I wish I could see all of the colors in a sunset or appreciate the changing of the leaves, I usually just consider myself lucky that I see the world colored in a way that very few others do" (Rosenblatt, S., 1998). (Conclusion)In Conclusion, when you look at your grandmother's or mother's old photographs, what do you see? Achromatopsia means no color. So, a person that would live in a world that everyone can see color does not mean that this person can see the different colors of the world. Would you still take seeing color for granted, some people do and some people do not. Just because somebody looks normal that does not mean that they see things the same way that everybody else does. People with Achromatopsia look just like everyone else but they just see things differently. Now, that you have a chance to read what I have wrote in my final paper please give me you feed back as to what you think about it. Thank you for taking the time to read this paper and to educate yourself by mean of this information. Please put yourself in to this paper so that you will know what I see everyday of my life. I have the complete kind.

unit nine (9) all most at the finish line

This week I am going to talk about the way that I think that I have blossomed in this class. I think that when I first started this class I thought that i knew everything about APA style but as I went through this class/course I found out that I still have a lot to learn. And that is okay because not everyone knows everything about everything. I hope that you understand that statement. I think that if you sign up to take college classes/courses then you should learn something that you did not know before you started otherwise this would be a waist of your time, money, and energy. I am glad that i did not have to waste my time, money, or energy. I also think that you are only going to get out of the college experience what you put in to it. I am glad that I have learn how to "work smarter and not harder" I really enjoyed working with all of you and hope that you make it through to get your college degree in what every you started out in. I know that I have connected with some of you but I would love to stay in touch with all of you if possible. I will not be continuing this blog but you all can reach my through face book. This is a free download. All you have to do is type in my face book name and you will be able to find me that only thing that I ask is that you please let me know that you are from Kaplan University so that I will accept you as friend. My face book name if jennifer wysockey. I think that all of you are ready for the professional world. I think that we all have blossomed in this class/course. Like I keep saying work smarter not harder and keep educating your mind. The old saying holds true if you do not use it you will lose it. So, to close this blog this week I must say keep using it (your mind) so that you do not lose it (your mind).

Unit eight (8)

I really have had a hard time with the process of trying to figure out what my thesis statement is. If you have read my paper then you can see that I still do not have one and we are very close to the end of this term. I know what I am talking about in my paper but figuring out what my thesis statement I am just not sure. As for keeping this blog after the class is over. I just do not think that I will because I have so much going on and everyone can get in touch with me through face book. This is a free download and all you have to do is type in my face book name and friend request me. My face book name is Jennifer Wysockey. You will see a picture of my youngest kitten with my mother's hands. I really just do not have the time to do two different writing things but I would love to keep in touch with everyone as much as possible. I am on face book everyday so it is pretty easy to get a hold of me.The only thing that I ask if you do look me up on face book please let me know that you are from Kaplan University so that I do not ignore you and I will confirm you as a friend. I ask thins because I do not accept everyone that friend requests me. Thank you for your patients as to this matter. I think that everyone in this class runs very busy lives so if they do or do not post to my blog I just take that as a sign that they just do not have the time. I do how ever have to say that i have enjoyed talking to everyone through this blog and I hope that some of you contact me through face book. I know that I all ready have a few of you logged in to face book but if you could please look me up through face book this would make it a lot easier to contact me. P.S. There are a lot of games that one can play through face book and I am in most of them because this helps me to unwind from all of the stress in my life. They are very relaxing to play.

unit seven

I feel so dumb that I could not remember how to post to my blog this week. I think that this is due because I had to take my mom for surgery and everything else is weighing very heavy on my mind and shoulders. I hope that everything starts to cool off soon so that I can catch up on everything that I need to and I will be able to keep my grades up because this is a very bad time to fall behind in any of my classes/courses. For everyone that reads this blogging post my mom is doing fine now. She had to have a nerve block done so that she will be able to use her arm and hand a little bit more (hopefully). The last time that she had this done it did not work so we are hopping that this time will be different and it will take.

This week the question talks about the peer review that we are doing this week. I think that doing peer review is a good thing because not only is the Professor going to grade your paper but this gives the other student a chance to read what you are writing about and it gives them a chance to help you polish off your paper before you write your finial project for this class/course. I like the way that everyone in this class/course can tell you what you are doing wrong without putting you down and making you think that you do not know anything at all. I think that Kaplan University should do this with all classes/courses. What better way to get a fresh pair of eyes to read your paper and see the things that you yourself might not see. For example= I have been doing my APA style the whole time that I have been in Kaplan like this = (VanDam, K., Ph.D. Tysick, N., M.A. (2008)). all t0 find out that this is the wrong way that it should be done. This is the reference to the KU Handbook but it would be the in text citation. This should look like this= VanDam, K., Ph.D., Tysick, N., M.A., 2008). I did not know that you do not put a ( ) inside of a ( ). this was very good advice and one that I will try to follow in every other paper that I have to write. (I am sure that their will be many more because I have about six more term left to go before I get my degree in Medical Transcription. What was something that you found very interesting about my paper or that you found that I did wrong? I hope that you feel free to let me know because I can not fix it unless you tell me. So please tell me everything that is wrong with my paper, what might sound better, how I can improve my paper to make it look more professional in the future. I thank you for all of your help on my final project and I hope that everyone learns something about Achromatopsia.

unit 6/ about final paper and what I have been dealing with in the past week or two

I am doing my final paper on a genetic condition called achromatopsia. In a nut shell this is a condition that effects the way a person see the color of the world. In my case I do not see any color at all. At the end of this class please come back to read more about this condition because I will attach my final paper to this blog. If I can not figure out how to attach my paper to this blog I will just simplly re-write it in this blog so that everyone can read more about this condition and what I have been going through for the last 38 years of my life.

What I have been going through in the last six week was the question that we are asked to answer ion this posting to our blog. I have been going through a lot in just the last week because I am trying to get my mother ready for surgery. She has to have something called a nerve block. What this is, is the doctor puts a long needle in to her neck and injects some medicine in to her so that the pain is blocked off from her arm. This should help her to be able to use her arm and hand again but they are not sure because of her condition. I hope that this time it works because the last time that she had this done it did not take and she was in more pain than she started with. When this is done she will be down for four days. She will have to have around the clock care or at lest until her body is able to fight off the side affects. I know (from the last time) that she gets very sick to her stomach, and has trouble focusing her eyes to see any thing. So, I will have to be hear in the house every moment until she is able to focus her eyes and keep food down.

The answer to last weeks game is Kaplan University has the best professors.

Unit Five (5) Blog/ Playing A Game At The End.

This week I think that I have finally become comfortable with blogging and I think that it is just like journaling but you just have to do it on the computer and journaling you do in a notebook in the privacy of your home or bedroom. This weeks questions are = 1.) Discuss your personal writing process and see what others have to say about your style? 2.) IF there was one (1) think about your academic challenges, what would it be? and 3.) How is school influencing your life at or up to this point?

Question number one (1) = My personal writing process has taking me to a place that I never thought that I would ever be at because I have never liked writing but now that I have started to write I do not love it but I do not hate it either. I guess that this would be an improvement in my personal writing. When you think about it I had better get a lot more better with it because I am going for medical transcription and I know that there will be a lot of writing done with this career. One (1) of my goals is to start to get better with my writing and to start to like it a lot more than I all ready do because it will be very hard for me to do this kind of career if I hate to write. I guess what I am saying is that i am leaving the door open for improvement in this area of my studies. Question number two (2) = Academic challenges are not that easy for me to just pick out one (1) or two (2) different ones (1). I first thing that I came across in my new academic career as a student is becoming a student. The reason that I say this is because I never liked school to begin with and now look at me I am in college and doing great with all most all of my classes/courses.This of course was the biggest hurdle for me to overcome but I am sure that it is not the last one (1) that I will face. Another academic challenges was trying to navigate through Kaplan University classes/courses home pages. When every thing is new to some one than every thing is a little bit difficult to figure out.For example = Let us take this blog. When we first started to do this blogging thing a lot of the students (including myself) were very nervous and did not know what to do with it, how to write in it, start it up, post to others on it, or even adding a picture(which by the way I still do not know how to do this part). But look at me now, I can post to my blog, I got it set up and running, I am not nervous any more ( I hope that every one else is not nervous about blogging any more), I have learned to post to other students blog and I really like that part because I can not remember what was in the blog that I wanted to comment on by the time that I get back to the home page where I can make a post to my fellow students, and I just have to learn how to post a picture on to my blog so that my fellow students can know what some of the things that I talk about look like. Question number three (3) = I think that my choose to go back to school was the best choose that I have ever made because I know that I would never gotten to know some of the friends that I have made here at Kaplan University. I love the way that Kaplan University helps you out when you are having troubles with your classes/courses, and the way that Kaplan University works with you so that if you seem to fail a class/course they will help you to get in to an easier class/course so that you can pass it. I also love all of my professors that I get here at Kaplan University.

I am starting something new with this post. If you would like to play a game with my post please answer these questions. READY=
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .

See if you can figure out what this says.
CLUE = The answer is in my posting this week. I will tell you what this says the next time that I post to my blog.
